Like the cactus or the porcupine or the urchin, people grow metaphorical spines of personality protection to keep the most vulnerable and softest parts of them safe from harm.
Our sharpness intimidates our opponents
and if they get too close there’s an accidental prick
but with all we’ve been through and all they might do
who can blame us for this?
Remember to laugh through the walls of your cave
for double the protection and double the brave.
